ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. (September 3, 2012) - In an early-season battle between two nationally ranked teams, No. 20 Rollins earned a 3-3 draw with No. 5 Flagler in St. Augustine Monday.
The Tars (1-0-1) looked as if they had let it slip away in the waning moments, but Daniel Salazar laid a perfect free kick to the head of Walker Hume for the equalizing goal in the 89th minute. The two rivals then went on to a stalemate after extra time.
Flagler (1-0-1) struck first as Zach Shanahan scored a breakaway in just the third minute to put the hosts up 1-0. Alex Bisbee got the Tars on track in the seventh minute with a goal on a Tucker Hume assist.
Tucker put Rollins on top 2-1 in the 63rd minute as Rob Crowley chased a ball down to the end line and put a cross on frame to the head of Hume.
Rollins was in control heading into the 70th minute but two lapses deep in Flagler's attacking end led to a pair of scores.
Nick Duncan took advantage of a failed Tars clearance in the 71st minute and knotted the score at 2-2. Two minutes later, the Saints took the lead on Shanahan's second score of the game after connecting passes and a strike inside the box.
Flagler then dug in on the backline, but a foul 30 yards out set up Salazar's free kick and Hume's game-tying goal.
Anthony White played all 110 minutes in goal for the Tars, earning four saves and surrendering three scores. Rollins kept Flagler goalkeeper Camp Bissell busy as he racked up 13 saves.
Rollins got off 27 shots in the game while Flagler totaled 19.
Rollins will be back in action on Friday, Sept. 7 at West Florida in a key South Region match-up. Game time is slated for 8:30 p.m. ET from Pensacola. Fans can catch the action live on the Tars Sports Network at RollinsSports.com.
