MELBOURNE, Fla. (September 9, 2011) - The Rollins women's cross country team earned three top-10 finishes and took second place at the Florida Tech Invitational Saturday morning. The Tars men were fourth in the event, hosted by FIT at Melbourne's Wickham Park.
Lauryn Falcone led the Tars with a second place finish, stopping the clock at 19:36, just 30-seconds out of first place. Justine Falcone came in fifth place in a time of 20:48 while newcomer Mollie Jones took sixth in 21:08.
Christina Goodwin finished 11th in a time of 22:41 and Daniella Betencourt was 20th in 25:00. Hanna Lewis posted a time of 26:43 to take 25th and Jennifer Rios was 26th in 28:04.
The Tars totaled 42 points to finish behind host Florida Tech (31) and ahead of Stetson (54).
On the men's side, the Tars finished fourth with 93 points. FIT scored the win with a perfect score of 15 and was followed by Stetson (61) and Fort Valley State (86).
Blake Pierce was the Tars' top finisher, taking 14th place in a time of 30:37 over the 8k course. Joe Skydell was 16th in a time of 30:37 and Dan Mazur was 21st in 31:55. Keegan Casilla came in 33rd in a time of 36:17 while Ben Schumann finished 36th in 38:18.
Rollins will be back on the course Friday, Sept. 30 at the FLRunners.com Invitational in Titusville.
