WINTER PARK, Fla. (November 1, 2011) - Rollins junior Lauryn Falcone was named to the All-Sunshine State Conference women's cross country team for the second straight season, it was announced Tuesday.
The Somers, Conn. native landed in the top-10 in all but one meet this season, including a runner-up finish at Florida Tech.
Falcone started the year with a 17th place and time of 19:37 in steamy conditions at the Tampa Early Bird Invitational. She was a second better the following week at Florida Tech, stopping the clock at 19:36 in second place.
After a week off, Falcone went to Gainesville and finished 40th out of 209 runners at the UF/Mountain Dew Invitational, posting a time of 19:19. Her best 5k of the season came at the FLRunners.com Invitational where she took 10th in a time of 18:52.
The two most recent meets have been over 6k courses. She finished seventh in a time of 22:50 at the UCF Black and Gold Challenge, and then took eighth at the Sunshine State Conference Championship last week in 23:17.
Falcone will next participate in the 2011 NCAA Division II South Region meet on Nov. 5 in Tampa. Last season, she finished 19th at the regional in 23:32, narrowly missing out on a spot in the national championship.
