LAKELAND, Fla. (September 14, 2012) - Senior Lauryn Falcone captured her first career victory Friday evening, winning at the Jim Ryun Invitational in Lakeland.
The Somers, Conn. native had posted three-career runner-up finishes coming into the event, but dominated the field of 63 runners. Falcone's time of 19:39 was nearly two minutes faster than second place Samantha Greenline of Pasco-Hernando Community College. A quartet of Tampa runners then rounded out the top-five.
Sarah Ankli took 14th place in a time of 23:00 while Mary-Ellen Garner was 18th in 23:37. Jessica Deese finished 36th (25:50) and Emily Hendrix was 43rd in 27:54. Sara Dobish finished 51st with a time of 31:33 while Jennifer Rios took 54th, stopping the clock at 31:59.
As a team, the Tars women finished third with 89 points. Tampa won with a score of 29 while Pasco-Hernando (48) took second.
Rollins took fifth in the men's division, totaling 106 points. Tampa put eight in the top-10 to win with 18 points. Florida Southern was runner-up with 85.
Kyle Sawyer led the way with a 13th place finish in 31:40 while Dan Mazur was 21st with a time of 33:18.
Cameron Mullins stopped the clock at 37:01 and was 28th while Matt Boggs was 10 seconds back in 29th (37:11). CJ Dunn finished 32nd in a time of 37:57.
The Tars will next be on the course Friday, September 14 at the FLrunners.com Invitational in Titusville.
