Distance Crew Shines for Tars on Day One of SSC Championship

CLEARWATER, Fla. (February 15, 2012) -Rollins, headlined by its distance crew, saw its women finish the first day of the Sunshine State Conference Championships in third while the men sit fourth.

Grace Alexander posted the best swim of her career, finishing fifth in the 1000-yard freestyle in a NCAA Division II B cut time of 10:40.08. Jenny Nilson was 11th in 10:56.34 with Anna Roessler taking 17th (12:15.50) and Ashley Terr coming in 18th (12:48.74). 

Rollins 800-yard relay team of Nilson, Chandler Armistead , Christine Bianco and Jessica Spiegel took fourth in a time of 7:57.88.

On the men's side, Brian Sanborn led Rollins in the 1000 with an eighth place finish and NCAA Division II B cut time of 9:54.69. Daniel Mazur was 10th in 9:57.73 and Mark Danielson took 12th with a time of 10:08.38.

The Tars 800-yard relay team finished fifth as Sanborn, Mike Weinstein, Nate Burn and Mark Danielson stopped the clock at 7:06.78.

Rollins' women totaled 58 points and are 26 behind Tampa, but four up on Saint Leo. The Tars men earned 59 points to sit four back of Tampa.

The 2012 Sunshine State Conference Championship, hosted at the Long Center in Clearwater, runs through Saturday.
