BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (March 6, 2013) - Freshman Audrey Kula will dive into the NCAA Division II National Championship on Thursday as the first Rollins woman to swim in the event.

The Division II National Championships are being held at the CrossPlex Complex in Birmingham, Ala. March 6-10 as part of the NCAA Division II Winter Sports Festival. Five national championships are being contested at the facility.

Kula will be in the 100-yard butterfly prelim, starting at 11 a.m. ET. She is the fifth-seed in the event after a Sunshine State Conference Championship record time of 55.39. Finals are slated for 6:30 p.m. ET.

On Friday, Kula will swim the 200-yard butterfly where she is also ranked fifth. Her meet will finish with the 100-yard freestyle to open the final day on Saturday.

Kula is the first woman and second Tar to qualify for nationals. Kamel Tejeda is the only other Rollins swimmer to earn a spot in the event, swimming both his junior and senior seasons. As a junior in 2009 he was 11th in the 200-yard freestyle, 13th in the 500-yard freestyle, 21st in the 1650-yard freestyle, and 27th in the 1000-yard freestyle.
