WINTER PARK, Fla. (April 25, 2012) - Even after finishing off the SSC series sweep of Florida Tech last Wednesday, the Tars (37-7) fell to 14th in the latest NFCA Division II Top 25 poll, just behind fellow SSC member No. 13 Barry (37-9), when it was released by the Association on Wednesday.
For the fifth time this season, Valdosta topped the latest edition of the polls, receiving all 16 first-place votes for second consecutive week to carry the top ranking into the final week of play before NCAA regionals.
Kutztown (43-2) rose from fourth to second, while Central
Oklahoma (38-5) held tight at third.
After four losses last week, Indianapolis (45-7) fell to fourth, while
SSC rival Tampa (34-5) remained at fifth for the second consecutive week.
Following a four-game sweep by then seventh-ranked Cal State Monterey Bay
(42-10), UC San Diego (32-18) fell out of the rankings for the second time this
season. Moving into the poll in the
Tritons' absence was Molloy (42-14), which returns to the rankings at No. 25 for
the first time since March 2 of last season.
The Tars will finish up their conference schedule this week with a three game series with Florida Southern. Game one is set for Thursday, April 26 at 7 pm with a double header to follow on Friday afternoon at 1 pm. Fans can follow along on the Tars Sports Network at RollinsSports.com.
The NFCA Division II Top 25 Poll is voted on by 16 NCAA Division II head coaches, two representing each of the eight NCAA regions. Current 2012 records are shown; first-place votes are in parentheses.
