QUICK LINKS

WINTER PARK, Fla. (March 10, 2012) - After taking game one of a three game series with the Sharks of Nova Southeastern last night, the Tars finished off the sweep Saturday afternoon picking up two wins, 2-1 and 3-1 respectively.

In game one, Rollins opened up a quick lead scoring one in the first. After Sharks starter Sara DeMuth retired the first two Tars batters, senior Monica Meadows continued her hitting tear as of late with a double to right field. Meadows would come around to score immediately after on a RBI single by senior Hope Bitzer.

Rollins would manufacture another run in the second to open up a two run deficit. Senior Lawna Hunter led off the inning with a single and was then sacrificed to second by junior Hannah Lovestrand. Freshman Shelby Walters followed with a single up the middle to plate Hunter.

The score would stay at 2-0 in favor of the Tars until the fifth when the Sharks showed their first signs of life, scoring one on an RBI single by center fielder Katie Kelton.

But that was all that Rollins would surrender the rest of the way, cruising to their 19th victory of the year. Starter Amye McIntyre (6-2) picked up the win, giving up one run on five hits in five innings of work. Bitzer (2) earned the save throwing two perfect innings.

DeMuth (11-10) took the loss for Nova, giving up two runs on six hits in six innings pitched.

Game two started with a light drizzle falling from the sky as Bitzer started in the circle for the Tars, squaring off with DeMuth, who was making her third start of the series.

It was Nova who drew first blood in game two, scoring one in the top of the third courtesy of a RBI single by left fielder Lorena Spaulding, driving in DeMuth.

The Tars would come back to tie it at 1-1 with a run of their own in the bottom of the fourth. Meadows and Bitzer opened the inning with back to back singles. Meadows would then advance to third on an interference call, bringing up Hunter with runners on first and third with one out. Hunter would pick up the RBI on a ground out to first, allowing Meadows to score from third.

Neither team could get much of anything going again until Rollins came to bat in the sixth. For the second time in the game, Meadows and Bitzer led off the inning with back to back singles. After Bitzer was retired at second on a fielder's choice, senior Meredith Foster came up with runners on the corners with one out.

Foster would send a fly ball to right that was just deep enough to score Meadows on the sacrifice fly to take the lead at 2-1.

The Tars would add another in the frame when Hunter scored from third on a DeMuth wild pitch to put it out of reach.

Bitzer (10-2) picked up the win for Rollins, going the full seven while giving up just one run, zero earned, on five hits. It was Bitzer's 11th complete game of the season.

Rollins will be back in action March 17 when they travel to Boca Raton, Fla. for a three game series with Lynn. Fans can follow along on the Tars Sports Network at RollinsSports.com.

Notes: Rollins is now 11-0 when scoring in the first inning.
