Tough Start Puts Rollins in Seventh at Florida Blue SSC Championship

BRADENTON, Fla. (April 16, 2012) - Rollins trudged through its worst round of the season to open, but recovered in the afternoon to sit seventh at the Florida Blue Sunshine State Conference Championship.

The 23rd-ranked Tars turned in a 323 to start the event before carding the second-best score of the second round, shooting 291 (614).

Second-ranked Nova Southeastern (298-281) paces the field with 579 strokes while Florida Tech and Florida Southern are tied for second with 598 shots.

After a red second round, Tyler Sluman leads Rollins in fifth place with 146 strokes, four shots out of first. The FSU transfer shot a 77 in the first round, carding four birdies, five pars and nine bogeys. In the second-18, he posted the second best round of the day, a three-under 69. Sluman owned the back with three birdies and six pars to couple with a one-birdie, one-bogey front nine.

Scott Lamb and Davis Hall are tied for 24th for Rollins, each with 155 strokes. Lamb turned in an 82 in the first round and came back strong with a one-over 73 in the second. Hall posted rounds of 80-75 on the day.

Spencer Cole is three back of Lamb and Hall, tied for 35th. The senior hung scores of 84-74 on the day for 158 strokes. Hunter Stone is alone in 44th, carding rounds of 90-78, totaling 168 strokes.

Oscar Lengden of Nova Southeastern leads the field with 142 strokes.

Tampa is hosting the 2012 Florida Blue SSC Championship at The Concession in Bradenton, a Jack Nicklaus and Tony Jacklin designed, par 72 course that totals 7,474 yards.
