BRADENTON, Fla. (April 17, 2012) - Rollins couldn't keep the momentum from Monday's second round going into Tuesday as the 23rd-ranked Tars finished seventh at the Florida Blue Sunshine State Conference Championship.
Rollins had just one player break 80 on Tuesday, shooting a 326 to finish with 940 strokes. Only 15 of the tournament's 45 participants were able to shoot in the 70s and just one broke par.
Tyler Sluman led Rollins at the event, tying for sixth place after a final round 78. He came into Tuesday in fifth after scores of 77-69 Monday. In the final round, the FSU transfer totaled one birdie, 10 pars and seven bogeys.
Scott Lamb and Spence Cole each carded 83 Tuesday to finish 28th and 33rd, respectively. Lamb hung rounds of 82-73-83 for 238 strokes while Cole notched rounds of 84-74-83 (241).
Davis Hall tied for 35th, shooting scores of 80-75-87 (242) while Hunter Stone (90-78-82) took 41st with 250 strokes.
Nova Southeastern ran away with the team title, posting a winning score of 876 (298-281-297). Florida Southern was second with a score of 913 while Florida Tech was a stroke back (914) in third.
NSU's Ben Taylor shot a 67 Tuesday and won by a single stroke over teammate Oscar Lengden 216-217.
Tampa is hosting the 2012 Florida Blue SSC Championship at The Concession in Bradenton, a Jack Nicklaus and Tony Jacklin designed, par 72 course that totals 7,474 yards.
Rollins next plays in the NCAA Division II Super Regional May 7-9 at Rock Barn Golf Club in Conover, N.C.
