Tars Tumble to 12th at NCAA South Regional

CONOVER, N.C. (May 8, 2012) - Rollins opened the NCAA Division II South Region Tournament on fire, but cooled off on day two, falling eight spots to a tie for 12th.

The Tars were fourth after the first day with a 291, but gave the field 10 shots Tuesday with a 301 to total 592 strokes. The top five teams and the top two players not with a team from each regional will advance to the finals May 15-19, at The Cardinal Club in Simpsonville, Kentucky as part of the 2012 Division II Spring Championships Festival.

Georgia College had the best second day and leads by one stroke with a score of 580 (291-289). Florida Tech (581) is third with UNC Pembroke, South Carolina Aiken and Barry each totaling 584 strokes in third.

Senior Spencer Cole leads the way for the Tars, sitting tied for 13th. He came into the day after a 73 opening round and was two shots better with a one-under 71 on Tuesday. He started the day with a triple bogey, but got all three shots back with a trio of birdies on 13-14-15. Cole had a bogey on No. 2 and closed the day with back-to-back birdies.

Tyler Sluman is four back and in a tie for 35th. He also posted a 73 on the second day and came back to shoot 75 Tuesday. Scott Lamb (72-78) and Hunter Stone (73-77) are tied for 49th with 150 strokes. Davis Hall is alone in 96th with 157 strokes, putting up rounds of 77-80.

The tournament will conclude with 18 final holes on Rock Barn Golf Club Wednesday. Live scoring can be found at GolfStat.com.
