WINTER PARK, Fla. (April 24, 2012) - Rollins earned its record 29th bid into the NCAA Division II South Region Tournament, it was announced Tuesday, taking the No. 4 seed in the West Florida regional.
The Tars (16-8) will meet fifth-seed Saint Leo on Sunday, April 29 in the first round. Top-seed West Florida will face the winner of the play-in match between eighth-seed West Alabama and ninth-seed Fort Valley State.
Rollins and Saint Leo last played on Sunday in the third place match of the Florida Blue Sunshine State Conference Tournament with the Lions winning 5-3.
The Tars have an all-time record of 40-30 in NCAA Division II postseason play, including two national championships, one runner-up and four third place finishes. Rollins enjoyed record 23 straight bids into the tournament before missing out on the 2006 event. They have since been in the South Region Tournament each of the last six seasons.
In 2011, Rollins fell to West Florida 5-1 in the second round.
This season, Rollins is led by second-ranked Lucas Jovita and sixth-ranked Jeff Morris. Since falling in his first singles match of the season, Jovita has been dominant, winning 19 straight matches. Morris went unbeaten in SSC play and is 18-3 on the season.
