MELBOURNE, Fla. (February 18, 2017) – Rollins’ men’s tennis team opened Sunshine State Conference play in style, cruising to a 7-2 victory over the No. 42 Florida Tech Panthers.  The Tars, who are ranked No. 34 nationally, improve to 2-1 on the year and 1-0 in SSC play.  Florida Tech falls to 2-2 in the 2017 campaign, and 1-2 in conference action.

Rollins took two out of three doubles matches on the day.  Ranked No. 7 in the nation Patrick Sell and Sami Kirberg controlled Ricardo Corona and Aria Canadell en route to an 8-4 victory.  Francesco Racanelli and Ziad Melhaoui tallied the other doubles victory for the Tars, besting Wade Ball and Tjimon Louisy, 8-3.

Five Tars coasted to singles victories to seal the match for Rollins.  Sell defeated Corona 6-2, 6-1 playing out of the first position.  Racanelli shut down Foresight Okungbowa to capture a 6-1, 6-3 win.  Melhaoui mirrored Sell’s performance, losing only three games, taking a 6-1, 6-2 win.  Daniel Ferl and Cody Gubin won out of the fifth and sixth positions, 6-3, 6-3 and 6-3, 6-2 respectivley.

Rollins takes a week off before traveling to No. 7 Barry.  The Tars and the Bucs will take the court at 10:30 a.m. in Miami Shores.
