Tars Men's and Women's Tennis Ready for SSC Championships

WINTER PARK, Fla. (April 11, 2011) - Rollins' ninth-ranked men's and women's tennis teams are set to participate in the 2011 Sunshine State Conference Championships, April 14-16.

Nova Southeastern will serve as the host at Sanlando Park in Altamonte Springs, Fla. Rollins and the Central Florida Sports Commission team host the NCAA Division II National Championships at the same venue in mid-May.

The Rollins women (16-5) are the third-seed for the tournament and will meet sixth-seed Florida Tech at 9 a.m. in the quarterfinals on Thursday, April 14. They will then face either second-seed Barry or seventh-seed Saint Leo on Friday April 15, also at 9 a.m. The championship match is slated for 9 a.m. on Saturday, April 14.

Senior Margaret Junker, ranked 17th in Division II, leads the Tars on the season, posting a record of 18-3. She is 2-2 against nationally ranked opponents and a perfect 3-0 in the No. 1 position. Roshni Luthra, ranked 29th, is 10-8 on the year, all from the top flight. Newcomer Mariana Salvador posted a 16-2 mark in the regular season while Stefania Tkach was key in the middle of the Tars' line-up, going 15-6.

Junker and Ragsdale are the Tars' top doubles tandem, having gone 12-9 overall and 3-3 in the SSC from the top position.

Head coach Beverly Buckley sits just two victories away from 400 for her career.

The Rollins men (14-7) are also the No. 3 seed at the event and will meet sixth-seeded Eckerd at Noon on Thursday, April 14. Their next opponent will be either second-seeded Lynn or seventh-seed Florida Tech on Friday, April 15 while the championship match will be played at noon on Saturday, April 16.

Reigning SSC Player of the Year Jeff Morris carries a 14-7 record in to the tournament, having gone 4-2 in conference play during the season. He is currently the 12th-ranked singles player in Division II. Arturo Baravalle, ranked 37th, is also 14-7 on the season, playing primarily at the No. 2 position. Due to an injury to Neil Clausen in the middle of the season, Morris and Baravalle teamed at No. 1 doubles and are now ranked 14th in the nation.

Newcomers Sebastian Hafner and David Yawalkar have been consistent for the Tars this season with both having won 15 singles matches. In doubles, they have teamed to post a record of 9-3 in the No. 3 position.
