WINTER PARK, Fla. (March 22, 2017) – Rollins held a slight edge over the Murray State Racers when the match had to be called due to lightning. The Tars, who remain 7-8 on the year, were on top of Division I Murray State 4-3 when the match was suspended.
The Tars swept the doubles matches. Fabiana Vitanza and Alexandra Borg were victorious out of the first position, defeating the Racers’ Schibol and Chang, 8-6. The pairing of Shannon Etten and Carlye Goldman cruised to an 8-4 win in the second position. Savanna Fuller and Teresa Kaiser moved to 9-5 on the season, battling for a 9-7 victory in the third spot.
Vitanza won the Tars fourth match of the day out of the first singles position, triumphing over Anja Loncarevic in three sets, 6-1, 3-6, 6-2. The matches being played by Fuller, in the fourth position, and Kaiser, in the fifth spot, could not be completed due to weather.
The Tars now gear up to finish the season with a string of Sunshine State Conference foes, beginning with No. 25 Florida Southern. The Tars and Mocs will face off, in Lakeland, on Wednesday, March 29, at 3 p.m.
