HICKORY, N.C. (April 1, 2012)- The Rollins men's lacrosse forged a large lead early in the game, but could not hold off the Bears of Lenoir-Rhyne, falling 17-16 in double-overtime, Sunday afternoon. Rollins falls to 3-11 overall and 1-6 in DSC play, while Lenoir-Rhyne improves to 4-10 overall and 2-6 in conference play.

The game was a tale of two halves that saw the Tars control the first two periods, including a nine goal outburst in the opening 15 minutes. Rollins posted another two goals in the second period to head into the break with an 11-8 advantage over the bears. Lenoir-Rhyne started the game off slow, but found their stride outscoring the Tars by a three goal margin to knot things up at the end of 60 minutes.

Will Diamond, Jack Dever, Stephen DeFlumeri and Oliver Moore carried the offensive load for the Tars scoring 13 of the Tars 17 goals. James Libutti, Billy Pray and Michael Lupinacci tallied one goal apiece to round out the scoring. Diamond also handed out three assists to go with his scoring performance with Libutti garnering two helpers on the afternoon.

Peter Harvey, Taylor White,Lupinacci and Moore also provided setups on four of the Tars goals. Rollins fired off 47 shots on the afternoon with the Bears tallying 50 shots of their own. The Tars also took advantage of man-up opportunities with the Blue and Gold converting on 3-of-5 chances.
Andrew Sheering kept the Tars in a strong position the whole, registering five saves in the third period and racked up a total of 10 for the game.

Neither team could grab the decision through 60 minutes of regulation and would need extra time to find a winner.

Rollins controlled the first overtime period, cracking off four shots in the first four minute extra stanza and held the Bears to one shot in the period. Defensively, both teams tightened up and made adjustments for the second overtime period with shots coming more at a premium.

The Bears came out and took control of the second overtime period and fired off a shot that found the back of the net just 20 seconds in to seal the win for the Bears.

Rollins will finish up the regular season with Senior Day when they welcome Tampa to Winter park on Friday, April 6.
