WINTER PARK, Fla. (October 12, 2012) - The Rollins volleyball team closed out the first half of conference play in fashion as a trio of Tars led Rollins past the Lynn Fighting Knights in a straight sets (25-21, 25-15, 25-20) victory Friday night at Warden Arena.
Megan Hodges led the Tars offense with 14 kills, while hitting at a .387 clip. Camille Indest added 13 kills with a .524 hitting percentage while Kelly Merideth registered 11 kills and 10 digs, while hitting .611 for the match.
The Tars now improve to 11-8 overall and 5-3 in the SSC while Lynn falls to 10-7 on the season and 2-5 in conference play.
Much like Wednesday's match against Florida Tech, the Tars found themselves trailing early on in the first set but made up a seven-point deficit to tie the score at 13-all on a defensive miscue by LU. The Fighting Knights evened the score at 14-all but a serving error by Lynn gave way to a 4-0 Rollins run. A kill by Hodges secured the 25-21 win.
Momentum ran high in the second set as Rollins hit .423 as a team. Despite not taking hold of a solid lead until the 11-10 mark, Rollins cruised by Lynn to record a 25-15 win. The Tars held their largest lead at the end of the frame.
In the final set, Rollins held a small margin over Lynn allowing the Fighting Knights as close at two at the 16-14 mark. A kill by Caitlin Hopkins managed to seal the 25-20 win for the Tars.
Rollins will take a break from conference play as they host the Flagler Saints on Tuesday, Oct. 16. Match time is set for 7 p.m. Fans can catch all the action live on the Tars Sports Network at RollinsSports.com.
