WINTER PARK, Fla. – The Rollins College baseball team allowed five homeruns and 22 hits as the Florida Tech Panthers scored 24 runs to earn the decisive victory over the Tars, Tuesday evening in non-conference action.
The Panthers left two scoreless innings on the scoreboard as a six-run eighth inning highlighted Florida Tech’s scoring night, while the Tars scored its three runs over three innings.
Rollins got on the board in the bottom of the second with a leadoff homer from Scott Chase, his third in four games, but the Tars were unable to cut into the deficit any further in the frame as they trailed, 4-1.
Florida Tech tacked on five more runs in the third to solidify the victory as it would go on to scatter 15 more runs in the game.
Third baseman Ryan Luker and catcher Ryan Harvey added RBIs in the contest to cap the Tars offensively. Chase and John Avanzino collected two hits apiece to lead Rollins.
The Panthers finished with six hitters who racked up two or more hits as Michael Demma and Kevin Villa paved the way with four hits each and a combined total, nine RBIs.
Rollins used nine pitchers in the game as Danny Clark registered a team-high three innings, but the loss fell upon starter, Andrew Loynaz (0-4). Loynaz surrendered four runs off four hits to draw the loss.
Panther starter David Mueller (6-4) went 6.2 innings and gave up seven hits and three runs to secure the victory.
The Tars return home for its final home series of the season against Barry beginning, Friday, May 1 at 6 p.m.
