WINTER PARK, Fla. (March 4, 2017) – Freshman lefty, AJ Chacon got the start and led Rollins to a 10-0 victory over the Assumption Greyhounds on Saturday. At the plate, shortstop Brian Brooker went a respectable 3-4 with two home runs, three RBIs and crossed the plate three times himself.
With their second shutout of the season, the Tars improve to 10-4 on the season while Assumption falls to 3-4 overall.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
AJ Chacon started the game strong, striking out four batters in the first two innings, and never looked back. The Lutz, Fla. native went on to throw seven total innings, sat down 13 batters on strikes while holding the Greyhounds scoreless.
Rollins got on the board for the first time in the bottom of the second inning, taking advantage of a Christopher Corbett single, stolen base and a pair of passed balls. Isaiah Russell extended the lead with an RBI single up the middle in the fifth inning.
The game was broken open when Brian Brooker hit a three-run home run in the sixth inning, putting the Tars up 5-0. Rollins tallied one more run in the seventh inning off of a Nick Breen single. Rollins slammed the door by scoring four runs in the bottom of eight, starting with a second Brian Brooker home run. Peter Nicoletto topped off the inning with a two RBI single up the middle.
