WINTER PARK, Fla. (February 15, 2012) - In need of a win in the worst way, Rollins snapped its three-game skid with a 61-58 Sunshine State Conference victory over Lynn on Wednesday.
Chris Malcolm led Rollins (15-8, 8-5 SSC) and all scorers with 21 points, going 5-of-5 from the field, including two 3-pointers, and was 9-of-11 from the stripe. He also swatted six blocks and moved into second place on the Tars all-time list with 104 in his Rollins career, just one behind leader Craig Reichel.
Jeremy Sharpe added 18 points and five rebounds while Myk Brown chipped in 10 points and six boards.
Lynn (13-12, 6-7 SSC) was led by 19 points from Jeremy Lampkin with Josh Garcia and Brandon Smith each netting 10.
Rollins was nearly doubled-up on the glass with the Fighting Knights earning a 44-25 edge in rebounds. The Tars shot 40 percent (16-40) from the field and 21-27 from the stripe. Lynn hit 35 percent (20-58), including just 5-of-26 from long range.
Rollins had come out slow its last three games, but pulled a 180 on Wednesday, running ahead 16-5 after the first nine minutes of play.
The Tars led 21-12 before Lynn rolled off a 6-0 run and cut the advantage to 21-18 with 5:45 to go. Rollins then outscored LU 14-3 the rest of the frame, punctuated by a Sharpe triple at the buzzer to make it a 35-22 Tars lead at the half.
Lynn ground Rollins lead down throughout the second half with a Sharpe dunk at with eight minutes to play giving Rollins a 50-44 lead. The bucket would be Rollins' last field goal of the game as LU came charging back and led 57-56 with 96 seconds to play.
A pair of Malcolm free throws put Rollins on top 58-57 and was followed by blocks from Brown and Dave Diakite on Lynn's next possession. Sharpe was fouled and hit a pair from the stripe with seven seconds to go to make it a three points spread, 60-67 with seven ticks left.
Rollins fouled DeMario Fountain, making one of two with Diakite chasing down the rebound on the second and finishing off with one from the stripe.
