19th-Ranked Tars Look to Right the Ship against Saint Leo

At A Glance - Rollins has dropped two-straight for the first time this season and will look to bounce back Saturday as the 19th-ranked Tars host Saint Leo in a Sunshine State Conference match-up. The Tars fell at 68-51 at Eckerd a week ago and most recently had a comeback fall short at Barry and lost 53-49. Rollins (19-5, 7-5 SSC) is fourth in the conference standings, three games back of Florida Southern with four to play. The Tars are also ranked fourth in the NCAA Division II South Region with the top eight teams at season's end earning bids to the postseason. The Tars rank second in the SSC with 72.7 points a game and hold teams to just 57 points a night, also second in the conference. Rollins is also the top rebounding squad in the league with a +8.0 rebounding margin...Saint Leo (9-14, 1-11 SSC) is fighting for a spot in the Sunshine State Conference Tournament and have lost its last five straight. Their last time out was a 73-49 loss at Florida Southern. The Lions are last in the conference in scoring margin (-3.4) with an offense that generates 57.3 points a game and defense allowing 60.7 points.  

The Series - Rollins leads the all-time series 67-8 over Saint Leo and has won each of the last 27 meetings. The last time the Tars fell to the Lions was Jan. 28, 1998. Earlier this season in Saint Leo, the Tars were up big in the second half but had to hold on for a 66-60 victory. Kristina Mingos led Rollins with 14 points and Sarah Blackburn turned in 13, both off the bench. Brittany Carannante hit five 3-pointers to lead SLU and all scorers with 18 points. Rollins outrebounded Saint Leo 57-44 in the game, marking the third time this season the Tars have gathered 57 boards.

The Stars - Kristina Mingos is the Tars' top scorer and rebounder, averaging 11.7 points and 5.9 boards a game. Amber Heistan nets 10.2 points a night and has totaled a team best 35 steals. Kourtnie Berry adds 9.9 points a game and is one of the SSC's top free throw shooters, hitting 81 percent on the season. Freshman Sarah Blackburn leads Rollins and is third in the SSC, shooting 50 percent from the floor... Brittany Carannante leads the Lions on the year with 12.1 points a game. Lauren Lee adds 11.9 points and a team best 7.4 rebounds a game, which ranks fifth in the SSC, while Chelsea Williams nets 11.2 points a game. Carannante is one of the top defenders in the SSC and ranks fourth in the league with 2.2 steals a game.

The Coaches - Rollins legend Glenn Wilkes, Jr. (Stetson '81) is in his 25th season at the helm of the Tars program and, with a record of 551-180, is the winningest coach in program history. He is now within one win of his father, Stetson legend Glenn Wilkes Sr. who guided the Hatter men to a record of 552-435 in 36 seasons...Chanita Olds (Saint Leo '99) is in her sixth season leading her alma mater and holds a record of 61-100.  

The Rankings - Rollins stayed No. 19 in the NCAA Division II poll for the third straight week; Saint Leo did not receive any votes. The Tars are also fourth in the NCAA Division II South Region rankings; Saint Leo did not appear in the top-10.
