LAKELAND, Fla. (February 19, 2011)- The Rollins women's basketball team was overwhelmed by the hot outside shooting from the Florida Southern Moccasins. The Mocs used five three-pointers from Megan Dzikas to jump out to a commanding lead late in the second half. Florida Southern also out rebounded the Tars by eight, after Rollins held the advantage by seven at half time. With the loss Rollins falls to 20-6 and 8-6 in conference play, while Florida Southern improves 20-4 and 12-2.

The first half saw the Tars race out ahead of the Mocs early in the period to take control of the tempo. Rollins held a 10 point lead with 14:47 left in the first period. Amber Heistan used a pair of three's to help fuel the Tars attack to claim the early lead.

Defensively the Tars controlled the pace of play holding the potent Moccasin offense to just 10 points through the first 10 minutes of play. Rollins would hold the lead until Emma Cannon was fouled on her driving layup. Cannon finished the play off, hitting the free throw to tie the game at 32. Florida Southern would finish the half off with a 9-4 run to give the Mocs a five point lead at the break.

Florida Southern would gain control of the second half, jumping all over the Tars early and often. Each team traded baskets for the first 10 minutes with Rollins closing the gap to four after a Sarah Blackburn jumper with 14:47 left to play.

Dzikas started to heat up from the field, connecting on a three-pointer that pushed the lead to 10 with 11:27 left. Florida Southern continued the hot shooting and turned up the defensive pressure on the Tars to force the lead to 25 with 5:45 remaining.

Kristina Mingos, Julie Gorman and Heistan all pitched in with double-digit scoring efforts, while Mingos collected eight rebounds. In her return to the lineup, Tera McDaniel played 17 minutes, while scoring five points and handing out four assists.

Rollins will head to Melbourne for the last road game of the regular season to face Florida Tech on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.
