ZACHARY, La. (October 16, 2011) - Led by a strong performance in slalom, the Rollins water ski teams combined to place sixth at the National Collegiate Water Ski Association Division I National Championships over the weekend.

Rollins earned a score of 9005, which is 290 more than last season's fifth-place finish at the championship. Louisiana-Monroe took the overall title with a score of 11865, followed by Louisiana-Lafayette in second and Florida Southern in third.

As has been the Tars strength over the past few years, slalom was key to their big weekend.

The men's team finished sixth in the event with a score of 1470, led by Grigorios Sarantis in third place. Daniel Carter took 21st place and Alberto Mejia finished 26th. Drew Phillips was 31st and Drew Doty tied for 38th place. Delfina Cuglievan and Geena Krueger tied for fifth to lead the Tars women. Michael Briant finished eighth and Haley Haines tied for 24th.

In tricks, the men finished sixth and women fifth. Mejia led the men with an eighth place finish. Carter was 27th, Sarantis 29th, Tommy Shugart 42nd and Phillips tied for 53rd. Briant paced the women with a third place finish. Krueger was 15th and Cuglievan finished 18th. Haines posted a 36th place finish and Kayla Shoener tied for 48th.

Mejia again led Rollins in tricks, tying for sixth place. Phillips tied for 14th and Sarantis was 27th.  Carter took 35th and Robbie Vezina took 49th.  Cuglievan led the women with a ninth place finish while Krueger took 14th. Briant was 34th and Haines tied for 35th.

Overall, Mejia finished seventh for the men and Cuglievan was seventh for the women. Sarantis finished 15th, Carter 19th and Phillips 24th. Krueger took ninth, Braint tied for 13th and Haines was 25th.

Rollins has qualified for the Division I championship each of the past three seasons, taking fifth in 2010 and ninth in 2009. The Tars have four NCWSA National Championships, winning in 1967, 1989 and then back-to-back titles in 2002 and 2003.
