WINTER PAR, Fla. (March 9, 2012) - With a win already in the books from early in the day, a late comeback by the Tars fell short in extra innings as Rollins lost 11-9 to the West Chester Golden Rams Friday night at Alfond Stadium.

Rollins starter Mike Herrmann gave up eight runs in his five innings of work but received the no decision in Friday's nightcap.  As a late Tars comeback pulled through in the seventh and eighth innings, it was relief pitcher James Kimsey (0-1) that was charged with the loss giving up the go-ahead run.

Despite putting up a lone run in the opening frame, West Chester took a 3-1 lead in the top of the third.  Rollins failed to plate a run in the next two innings, but managed to push one across in the fourth.  In the top of the fifth, Herrmann's final inning on the mound, West Chester scored five to extend their lead to 8-2.

Another two scoreless innings would go by for the Tars but would erupt for three in the bottom of the seventh.  Curson led off the inning with a double to left and scored the first run of the inning on a base hit by Greg Smith, followed by a fielding error by the Golden Rams right fielder.  Boston Langely then laced a ball just right over the leftcenter wall to drive in two runs to cut the Tars deficit by three, 8-5.

Rollins kept West Chester scoreless in the top of the eighth, but would put up another three runs in the home half of the inning to even the score at eight runs apiece.  Two costly errors by the Golden Rams allowed for the Tars to push the three runs in.

With bases loaded, Josh Band reached first on a fielding error by WCU's shortstop driving in Kevin MagerGreg Smith then reached first on the same mistake by the shortstop and plated Mark MazurBrandon Curson scored the tying run on a one-out single by Langley.

In the top of the ninth, West Chester scored a lone run to lead 9-8 but the Tars would not go down quietly scoring a run of their own in the bottom half.  Mager scored the tying run, 9-9, on a base hit by Curson after reaching on a bloop single to right and advancing to third on a defensive miscue by West Chester.

The Golden Rams managed to squeeze out another two runs for an 11-9 lead but Rollins would not have the same luck going down 1-2 and then placing a man on first and grounding out for the final out.

Five Tars tallied multiple hits as Mager and Curson each went 2-for-5 with a double, two runs scored and an RBI.  Langley was 2-for-5 with a home run, three RBIs and one run.

Rollins will be back in action Saturday, March 10 as they host the No. 6 Grand Valley State Lakers. First pitch is set for 12 noon.  Fans can follow along on the Tars Sports Network at
