Gainesville, Ga. (March 26, 2017) – Rollins top-two boats both made the Grand Final to highlight a very successful trip to the John Hunter Regatta. The event is hosted on Lake Lanier in Gainesville, Georgia, the site of the 1996 Olympics.
The Tars Varsity 8 won their heat in a time of 7:09.2 to grab a spot in the Grand Final, beating second-place Clemson by eight-seconds. They came back in the afternoon to take fifth in a time of 7:31.2. Colby College won, followed by Georgia and Georgia Tech. Clemson was just 0.3 seconds head of the Tars boat.
The Varsity 4 also took first in its heat, beating second-place Tennessee by three seconds. In the Grand Final, the Tars finished third, just three seconds back of runner-up Georgia Tech.
Rollins Novice 8 also had a big weekend, finishing third in the heats after getting edged out by Florida by just 0.1 seconds for a spot in the Grand Final. In the Petite Final, the Tars finished second, eight seconds back of Northwestern.
The Tars JV 4 picked up a third place finish in its flight while the JV 8 was fourth, just two seconds back of Colby College and nine behind Georgia Tech. The Tars Novice 4 earned a fourth-place finish.
Rollins will be back on the water March 31-April 1 at the FIRA Championships in Sarasota.
