ORLANDO, Fla. – Freshman Michelle Sosa was named the Sunshine State Conference Rower of the Year and was a member of the all-conference and all-freshman team to highlight Rollins women’s rowing accolades, the conference announced Wednesday.
Sosa, a native of Rapid City, N.D., quickly became an impact rower for Rollins, competing in the Tars' varsity eight boat. She helped her crew to first-place finishes at the Rollins Invitational and DII Duels. She also guided the varsity four boat to wins at the Metro Cup and the Spring Break Race.
Accompanying Sosa on the All-SSC Rowing Team was junior Kimberly Dirshka. Hailing from Gulf Breeze, Fla., Dirshka’s work ethic and leadership filled in the holes needed for the Tars, as she was also a member of the varsity eight and top four boats.
The Tars also posted two on the all-freshman/novice team, including Sosa and Justine Rooney. Rooney stroked the varsity eight and varsity four the entire season where she excelled in her first campaign.
Voting for the all-conference team was conducted among the league's rowing coaches and sports information directors.
