SARASOTA, Fla. (April 29, 2016) – Rollins took fifth place at the 2016 Sunshine State Conference Championships on Friday, held at Nathan Benderson Park in Sarasota. This year marks the fourth consecutive SSC Rowing championship at Nathan Benderson Park.

The Tars Novice 4 compete in the Varsity 4 race and took fourth while the Rollins Varsity 8 boat placed fifth.

Barry captured its seventh team championship, sweeping all racing Friday. Nova Southeastern was second and Florida Tech third.

The Buccaneers Varsity 4 posted a winning time of 7:49.9, 12 seconds ahead of NSU and 15 in front of Tech. In the Varsity 8, Barry edged Nova SE by just under six seconds. Barry’s winning time of 6:57.2 was ahead of runner-up Nova Southeastern (7:03.6) and third place FIT (7:07.8).

For the Tars in the Varsity 4, the crew of Marissa Cobuzio (cox), Erin Snyder, Rachel Wasserman, Elizabeth Berry and Brianna Barrett posted a time of 8:37.3. Rollins beat fifth-place Tampa by 16 seconds. Wasserman was named to the All-SSC Freshman Team.

In the Varsity 8 race, Sarah Vega (cox), Isabella Seddon, Mattie Scull, Isabella Sandoval, Cameron Robinson, Elise Marquette, Miola Aganovic, Alyssa Rabade and Ana Rivas rowed for the Tars in a fifth-place time of 8:25.2. Rollins trailed fourth place Tampa by less than eight seconds. Following the race, Sandoval was named All-SSC.

Tampa served as host of the event at the future home of the World Rowing Championship in 2017 and the NCAA all division National Championship in 2018.

The Tars will next set their sights on the Dad Vail Championship May 13-14 in Philadelphia.
