CHARLESTON, S.C. (Sept. 14, 2014) - The Rollins sailing team fought hard this weekend at the SAISA Open in Charleston, S.C., securing an overall 13th place finish out of the 18 teams that attended.

Sailing in the Saturday morning rotation B fleet, skipper Andres Pineda and crewmember Cayla Jordan battled difficult wind and river current conditions to finish with a 10th place finish. The Rollins morning A fleet was led by skipper Maria Elisa Ayala and crewmember Alexis Ryan. The pair started off strong, pacing their way to a fifth place finish in the third race of the day.

The afternoon session brought more favorable weather conditions as sailors were tasked with sailing out to the Crab Bank. Skipper Emily Pasco-Anderson and crewmember Chance Sweat sailed in the A fleet, managing a 14th place finish.  Alaya and Sweat took a risk with the result paying off, going opposite of the fleet at the leeward gate, placing a fair amount of distance between themselves and the rest of the fleet, leading to a squad-best thirdplace finish.

The afternoon B fleet team was led by skipper Nelson Millett and crewmember Hannah Friedle. The pair kept their numbers low, registering a sixth place finish.

Sunday morning conditions were less than ideal with the wind never getting above 3 miles per hour, eventually leading to the teams being unable to sail.

The University of South Florida Bulls finished on top of the 18-team field.

The Rollins sailing team will be in action next weekend in Sarasota, Fla. when they will compete at South Points #2.
