WINTER PARK, Fla. (March 20, 2013) – With rain falling for most of the second half and poor field conditions, Rollins used a strong fourth quarter, outscoring the Moccasins 4-2, to notch a 10-7 Deep South Conference victory over Florida Southern. The home victory Wednesday night marks the first win in Rollins men’s lacrosse program history over the Mocs.

Tars attack Riley Robinson slotted four goals on the night and assisted another.

Rollins moves up to fourth place in the DSC standings with a .500 win percentage at 2-2 and a 3-7 overall record. The Mocs fall to 3-5 on the year and 1-2 in conference play.

The Tars came out shooting in the first half; registering the first three scores on the evening with goals by Austin Ricci, Robinson and Will Hauver. Southern fought back and tallied three goals of their own to level the score 3-3 with 13:49 left in the third frame.

Chris Ross deposited his 17th goal of the season to give the Tars the lead but the Mocs struck back with the next two scores to recapture the lead 5-4. Rollins responded with an unassisted A.J. Gogan goal to level the score and a Robinson effort to take the lead 6-5 with a minute to play in the third quarter.

Ricci opened up the fourth period with his second score of the game to extend the Tars lead to two, 7-5. Riley Robinson scored the next two Rollins goals with the Mocs scoring two goals of their own to keep pace 9-7. Morgan Baker inched the Tars closer to victory at 10-7 by adding the final goal of the night with 2:35 left in the game. The Rollins defense stood strong in the final two minutes as the Tars secured their first win in six tries against the Mocs.

Morgan Baker was the Tars assist leader with a pair of helpers and Connor O’Leary scooped up a team-high five ground balls.

Florida Southern outshot Rollins 40-27 but it was junior goalkeeper Andrew Sheerin that won the battle between the pipes grabbing 13 saves to the Mocs three stops.

The Tars will now hit the road for their next three contests.  Rollins will next face Lenoir-Rhyne on Thursday, March 28 in Hickory, N.C. at 4 p.m.  For the latest news, updates and statistics on the men's lacrosse team, visit the Tars home on the web at RollinsSports.com.
