LAKELAND, Fla. (February 20, 2017) – The defending NCAA Division II National Champion Rollins women’s golf team opens the 2017 spring season Monday at the 19th annual Lady Moc Classic in Lakeland. Florida Southern serves as host of the 18-team event at Grasslands Golf and Country Club Feb. 20-21.

Four of the top eight teams in the Golfstat national rankings highlight the field. Second-ranked Barry, sixth-ranked Rollins, seventh-ranked Nova Southeastern and eighth-ranked Saint Leo join No. 12 Lynn and No. 20 Montevallo as teams figured to be vying for the title. Flagler, West Florida, Armstrong State, host FSC, Limestone and North Carolina-Pembroke are also in the nation’s top-41 and are in the event. Eckerd, Tampa, Palm Beach Atlantic, Embry-Riddle and Seminole State round out the field.

Rollins is fielding an A and B squad for the event, allowing the entire roster to get out on the course for a college tournament.

Junior Lexie Toth leads the way for the Tars with two top-10 finishes and a 74.91 stroke average. Senior Paige Lyle is right behind with a 75.91 stroke average and two top-10 finishes as well. Selin Timur carries a 76.38 average and Viviana Vazquez has a 76.64 stroke average.

Rollins won the season opening Ross Resorts Invitational back in September and closed the fall season with a third-place finish at the Newberry Regional Preview. In between was a seventh at Princeton and 16th place at the Ruth’s Chris Tar Heel Invitational.

At last season’s Lady Moc Classic, the Tars tied for first with Lynn, but lost the tiebreaker with the non-counter’s final card, resulting in a runner-up finish for the Tars. Toth was the individual runner-up with a six-over 222 after rounds of 75-74-74.

Grasslands is a par-72 course playing at 6,085 yards, ranging from the 110-yard, par three tenth-hole to the monster 511-yard, par five 18th to finish. The first and second rounds will be played back-to-back on Monday, February 20 with a final 18 holes slated for Tuesday, February 21. Results will be posted on RollinsSports.com after each round.
