Rollins opens NCAA South Region Tournament play with a matchup against Lee University. The fourth seeded Tars, who compiled a record of 10-3-3 on the year, and fifth seeded Lady Flames, who went 14-2-2 this season, will play in Miami Shores, on the campus of Barry University, with the winner advancing to take on the top seeded Buccaneers in the next round.
WHO TO WATCH:
Rollins: The Tars fell in the semifinal round of the Sunshine State Conference Tournament, last time out, dropping a 1-0 contest to, eventual champion, Saint Leo. Kathryn O’Brien leads the Tars with 21 points on the year. The Sophomore has tallied eight goals, and five assists during the 2016 campaign. Paxton Sickler has put the ball in the net seven times on the year, adding three assists for a total of 17 points. Emma Bloom rounds out a strong attacking trio. The Maitland, Florida native is tied for the team lead with five assists, and has recorded five goals, for a total of 15 points. On the other side of the field, the Tars’ defense has been a tough unit to break down. Rollins is allowing only .89 goals per game, while surrendering only 78 shots on goal in 15 games. Freshman Kelly Rowswell has anchored the defense in goal for much of the year. The Windermere Prep graduate has maintained a .818 save percentage, playing 1,382 minutes in net for the Tars.
Lee: The Lady Flames come into the NCAA Tournament on the back of a first round defeat in the Gulf South Conference Tournament, falling in penalty kicks to Mississippi College. Lee averages 2.56 goals per game, and boasts an impressive attacking unit of their own. Kinsey Cichowitz has scored 14 goals on the season, adding two assists, for 30 points. Summer Lanter has found the back of the net 11 times, dishing out 5 assists, for 27 points. Lauren Peters has also netted 11 goals, recording one helper for a total of 23 points. McKenzie Bricker leads the Lady Flames with six assists, notching five goals of her own, for 16 points. Haley Gribler has seen the majority of the time in cage for Lee this season. The redshirt junior has allowed only five goals, making 33 saves on the year.
The winner of the Rollins and Lee match will advance to take on host institution, and top seeded, Barry. The second round contest is scheduled for Sunday, November 13, at 1 p.m.
