ORLANDO, Fla. (February 16, 2017) – Rollins women’s 200-yard medley relay team set a new school record to highlight the Tars day one of the Sunshine State Conference Championship.
The four-day event is being held at the Orlando YMCA Aquatic Center and continues through Sunday.
The Rollins women totaled 39 points and are tied with Florida Tech for sixth. Nova Southeastern leads the way with 211 points, followed by Tampa (179) and Florida Southern (118). On the men’s side, the Tars sit sixth, just four points back of Saint Leo. NSU tops the field with 198 points, FSC (172) is second and Florida Tech (141) third.
Grace Hansen, Taylor Wilks, Cara Dealy and Kylie Klotzbach highlighted the day with a school record in the 200-yard medley relay. The quartet took seventh in a time of 1:47.84; the previous mark of 1:48.43 was set by Klotzbach, Wilks, Audrey Kula and Kylie Pillard at last season’s SSC Championships.
Individually, Makenzie Grider reached the NCAA B cut and took ninth in the 1000-yard freestyle, stopping the clock at 10:30.47.
In the men’s 1000, Arron Nestor finished 15th in a time of 9:56.38. The 200-yard medley team of Peter Haddad, Raoul Rajani, Ailin McCullough and Benjamin Gebauer posted a time of 1:36.35 and took sixth.
The Tars will be back in the pool Friday, Feb. 17 at 10 a.m. for the prelims of day 2. Finals are slated to begin at 6 p.m.
