ORLANDO, Fla. (October 31, 2016) – Led by the top-two individuals, the ninth-ranked Rollins men’s golf team jumped out to a nine-shot lead after the first two rounds of the 2016 McDonough Cup.
Rollins is serving as host of the event tournament at Rio Pinar Country Club in Orlando.
The Tars opened the event with a 290 in the morning round and were a stroke back of Georgia College midway through the day. Rollins then turned in the best round of the day with a 286 to grab a nine-stroke advantage over the field with a score of 576. Flagler and Georgia College are tied for second with 585 strokes while Newberry (586) is fourth and Lander (586) fifth.
Jakob Van de Flierdt leads the field with a five-under score of 139. The senior posted the low-round of the morning with a 68 and came back with a 71 in the afternoon. Collin Engelhardt is in the hunt for a second-straight win, sitting second at four under and twin scores of 70.
Barry Babbitt is tied for 21st after scores of 76-72 and Sam Grindle is tied for 28th with cards of 76-74. Will Hall is in a tie for 37th with rounds of 78-73 and Martin Sandberg, playing as an individual, is 61th with scores of 78-79.
Rollins will complete the McDonough Cup on Tuesday, Nov. 1, playing with Flagler and Georiga College starting at 9:24 a.m. Fans can follow the action live on GolfStat.com
