WINTER PARK, Fla. (February 12, 2017) – Coming off its best fall season in recent memory, the Rollins men’s golf team is set to make its spring debut Feb. 13-14 at the 36th annual Matlock Invitational. Florida Southern serves as host of the event at Lone Palm Golf Club in Lakeland.

Rollins is ranked No. 7 in the Bushnell Golfweek Division II Coaches Poll and No. 8 in the Golfstat ranking. The Tars won two of four events in the fall and were top-four at every tournament.

The Matlock Invitational features 15 teams, seven of which are ranked in the top eight in the country and all but one in the field is receiving votes. Top-ranked West Florida, No. 2 Lynn, No. 3 Florida Southern, No. 4 Barry, No. 5 Nova Southeastern, the No. 7 Tars and No. 8 North Alabama headline the field. They join No. 12 Saint Leo, No. 14 Florida Tech, No. 16 Valdosta State and No. 21 Columbus State. Georgia College, Armstrong State, St. Edwards and Eckerd round out the field.

This is the tenth year in a row the tournament has been played at Lone Palm Golf Club, and the 75 golfers will play a par-72 course covering 7,065 yards. The first round starts with a shotgun Monday morning at 8:30 a.m. and will be immediately followed by the second round. The final round is slated for Tuesday, February 14.

Rollins will play its same line-up that posted the successful fall season. Jakob Van de Flierdt won the McDonough Cup to close the fall and leads the way with a 71.40 stroke average, tied for 18th best in the country. Barry Babbitt carries a 72.75 stroke average and Sam Grindle is right behind at 73.00. Collin Engelhardt won the LeMoyne Fall Invitational and has a 73.60 stroke average while Will Hall has a 74.20 average this season.
