WINTER PARK, Fla. (April 12, 2017) – Rollins controlled a key Sunshine State Conference matchup, defeating Eckerd 8-1, as teams still jockey for seeding in next week’s SSC Tournament.  The win boosts the Tars’ overall record to 9-9, while they move to 3-3 in conference play.  With the loss Eckerd drops to 8-8 on the year and 0-7 in the SSC.

The Tars got out to a fast start with Daniel Ferl and Cody Gubin teaming up for just the second on the year, earning a shutout, 8-0, win over Bruno Alves and Connor Masella in the third doubles position.  Patrick Sell and Sami Kirberg improved their doubles record to 6-4 on the year, as the duo captured an 8-4 win in the first position.

Rollins pulled away in the singles matches, winning all six individual contests in straight sets.  Sell picked up his second first position win of the afternoon with a 7-6 (7-1), 6-2 victory over Eddie Lewis.  Francesco Racanelli cruised in his second position match, downing Matt Spasic 6-1, 6-0.  Kirberg, like his doubles partner Sell, won a first set tiebreak, before controlling the second set in a 7-6 (7-2), 6-2 victory in the third spot.  Ziad Melhaoui was well in front of his opponent, 6-2, 2-0, when the Triton had to retire due to an injury.  Ferl and Gubin both made easy work of their matches in the fifth and sixth positions, winning 6-0, 6-2 and 6-2, 6-1, respectively.

Rollins will now host Florida Southern in their season finale.  The match is scheduled for Saturday, April 15, at 10 a.m.  The winner of the match will earn the fourth seed entering the conference tournament, while the loser will be the fifth.  In either circumstance the two teams are heading for back-to-back showdowns, first on Saturday, then at the conference tournament on April 20.
