LAKELAND, Fla. (November 12, 2016) – Junior outside hitter Shannon McDonough earned her 1000th career kill as the Rollins volleyball team matched up against Florida Southern for the second time in five days.  The Tars were able to force the Mocs into a fourth set, but Florida Southern came out on top with a 3-1 (22-25, 15-25, 25-20, 17-25) win in Sunshine State Conference action in the Jenkins Field House.  The loss drops the Tars to a record of 11-17 and 3-10 in SSC play, while the Mocs advance to a record of 19-9, and 10-5 against SSC opponents.

McDonough led the team in kills on the day with 17, followed by Bri Civiero with 11.  Freshman Gina Cappetta earned 34 assists on the afternoon, while Civiero led the team in digs with 21.  Rebecca Wilson added 14 digs of her own to add to the Tars’ defensive efforts.  At the net, junior MaryBethany Vincent picked up a season best 6.0 blocks, including one solo block.

The Moccasins were led by Anna Tovo, who amassed 20 kills, followed closely by Nicole Mattson with 18 kills of her own.  Bethany Besancenez dished out 43 of the Mocs’ 50 assists on the day.  Defensively, both Brindl Langley and Tovo picked up 21 digs apiece, followed by Mattson and Besancenez with 10 each.  Geary led the team in blocks with five, including two solo blocks.
