PHILADELPHIA, Pa. (May 14, 2017) – Battling chilly temperatures and, at times driving rain, the Rollins men's rowing team closed out the 2017 season at the Dad Vail Regatta in Philadelphia.
The Tars Varsity 4 of Sarah Ankli, Mitchell Laughlin, Marc Bremmer, Cameron Boyd and Nilsen Arias started the weekend finishing 12th of 35 boats entered in the time trials. Their time earned a spot in the semifinals Friday afternoon. Facing a few boats they had raced earlier in the season, the Tars finished fifth and fell into the C Level Final. Bowdoin won, followed by Stetson, Army and Lafayette.
Due to weather, only Grand and Petite Finals were conducted and the C Level Final was canceled.
“The men's four was coming off a tough fourth-place finish at SIRA and we were hoping to improve on it at Vails,” said head coach Shawn Pistor. “We were just not able to put it together today, but it has been quite a solid year. We had wins at FIRA, the Knecht Cup and a neck and neck race at SIRA – there is a lot to look back on as successes.”
With only senior Marc Bremmer graduating, the Tars will next set its sights on the 2017-18 season starting in the fall.
