SARASOTA, FLA (April 2, 2016) – Due to storms on Saturday, the Florida Intercollegiate Rowing Association Championships were cut short on Saturday. Rollins conquered the weather and was able to bring home the overall men's and women's points trophy, the first in the programs history.

The Rollins Men’s Pair of Reese Gallup and Michael Dennis topped all the boats entered for the men brining home a gold medal and the Pair Trophy.   Gallup and Dennis crossed the finish line at an impressive 7:33.

The MV8 did not fair so well.   With a small hiccup in the first 5 strokes, the Rollins V8 quickly fell into 6th place.   The boat fought back the entire race moving themselves into 2nd place just ahead of Central Florida and behind Georgia Tech. They were not going to catch GA Tech but the battle was on for the silver medal.  In the last 700 meters of the race, Central Florida made a move and when the Tars went to counter, onlookers could tell the Tars had spent every ounce of energy they had.  The guys tried to find that last bit of power, but fell victim to Central Florida by 2 seconds to bring home the bronze medal.

“As expected the guys were disappointed in how things turned out in this race.  As long as we can learn from the experience and use this for future races, then it is not a total loss” said Coach Shawn Pistor.

The men’s JV4 finished 2nd to bring home a silver medal behind GA Tech.  This group has made great strides this year and this medal is a solid finish.

Unfortunately the Tars were not able to compete in the MV4 and MV4 “B” of which they were entered due to the weather. For a full list of results, please see Row2k.

The guys have next weekend off to finalize boats for SIRA in Oak Ridge, TN on April 15 & 16.
