LAKELAND, Fla. (October 24, 2015) – The Rollins men’s and women’s cross country teams competed in the Sunshine State Conference Championship on Saturday at Holloway Park & Nature Preserve in Lakeland. The Tars men and women both finished sixth overall.

On the men’s side, Saint Leo finished first with 28 team points to gain the their second consecutive crown. The Lions had three finishers and four of the top 10 runners in the race. Nova Southeastern University came in second after recording 38 points. Florida Southern finished in third with a score of 87.

Valentin Lenz of Saint Leo was the individual champion. Lenz finished with a time of 25:27.20, besting his teammate Rafal Matuszczak by 12 seconds. Niclas Bez, the 2014 individual champion, from Saint Leo finished third with a time of 25:46.10. The top 10 individual runners were named to the 2015 SSC Cross Country Championship Team.

Jack Williams paced the Tars men, finishing in a time of 29:57.20. Emmett Horvath (30:16.70) was just behind him followed by Tyler Schneider (34:21.30), Ben Gabauer (38:38.10) and Leo David (38:38.20).

University of Tampa took first place on the women’s side, finishing with 28 team points, edging out Saint Leo who finished with 29 team points. Tampa's top five runners finished No. 2, No. 5, No. 6, No. 7, and No. 8. 

Colett Rampf of Saint Leo wins the SSC championship for the second consecutive year. Rampf finished with a time of 21:39.60. Chantell Blundell of Tampa finished second with a time of 22:17.10. Anabel Knoll of Nova Southeastern University took third with a time of 22:31.00. The top 10 individual runners were named to the 2015 SSC Cross Country Championship Team.

Issabella Seddon finished 25th to lead Rollins, finishing the 6K course in time of 24:55.80. Nicole Hubert was 59th in a time of 28:37 while Marta Lazowic finished in 29:30 to take 60th.

Also competing for Rollins were Daniella Rioux (30:10.90), Akifa Khattak (30:47.80), Abygail Wong (31:47.40), Francesca Champin (32:39), Caitlyn Richards (35:55.30), Camtryn Grudowski (36:34.20), Rebecca Gakawaya (37:24.40) and Elizabeth Patz (38.48.10).
