MEMPHIS, Tenn. (November 15, 2011) - The Rollins men's soccer team capped off another successful season with the Tars earning five nomination on the Daktronics All-South Region Team, it was announced Tuesday. Justin Clark, Nick Sowers and Rafa Faria headlined First Team honors with Jack Clifford, Matt Bauchle claiming Second Team nods as voted on by the region's Sports Information Directors.
Clark, the Sunshine State Conference Defensive Player of the Year helped lead a stingy defense that yielded a low 0.89 GAA average, which translated into 15 victories for the Tars, including a Sunshine State Conference Tournament crown. The senior from Atlanta also enjoyed a productive offenseive campaign, as he tallied one goal and three assists to rank him third amongst defenders for points on the team.
The offensive duo of Sowers and Faria provided the offense the Tars needed as they combined for seven game-winning goals. The pair also posted a combined 39 points and gave opponents a difficult time with their contrasting style of play. Sowers finishes his career third all-time with 75 games played in the blue and gold.
Another talented duo was recognized for their exceptional play in the 2011 campaign with Bauchle and Clifford garnering Daktronics All-South Region Second Team. Bauchle enjoyed his best offensive season with the Tars as the captain scored five goals from his backline position. Clifford, who was hampered by injuries gave Rollins the poise and confidence to move the ball around. The senior also provided the intangibles and was one of the most decorated defenders in program history.
Rollins finished third in the Sunshine State Conference and claimed the SSC Tournament crown, but suffered a heartbreaking defeat against Barry in the NCAA Division II South Region Tournament on Friday evening.
