OMAHA, Neb. (February 7, 2012) - Second baseman Kevin Mager joins over one hundred and thirty exceptional Division II baseball players as he was named to the 2012 Tino Martinez Award Watch List, it was announced Tuesday by Collegiate Baseball Lineup.
Mager ended the 2011 season as the Tars' best hitter with a .381 batting average, while becoming the program's all-time leader in triples in a season; his nine triples ranked third in the nation. He ranked in the top-10 in multiple statistical categories on the team and in the Sunshine State Conference. The redshirt senior was also an All-SSC Honorable Mention selection.
The Tino Martinez Award goes out to the most outstanding player in Division II baseball and is named after the former Tampa Spartan, Olympian and MLB All-Star Tino Martinez.
The list will be updated mid-season in April with semifinalists scheduled to be announced on May 7 and finalists May 21.
