Rollins (2-5-1) (1-2-1)– 1
Nova Southeastern (7-1-0) (3-0-0) – 3
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (September 30, 2017) – For the first time this season, the Tars would go head to head with a nationally ranked opponent. The Tars would drop the contest to No. 20 Nova Southeastern by a score of 3-1. Freshman Chynna McGirt would tally her first collegiate goal and points as a Tar.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
First Half: Rollins would take on the No. 20 Sharks and match them stride for stride in the first half. The Sharks managed to fire off ten shots in the opening half, while Rollins took four of their own. Nova Southeastern also held a slight advantage on corner kicks in the first half, 3-1. Sophomore goalkeeper Kelly Rowswell made four first half saves to help keep the Tars and Sharks scoreless heading into the break.
Second Half: The Sharks came out of the locker room, and turned up the tempo of play. They were finally rewarded in the 66th minute when Emma Heikkila drilled a shot from on top of the 18-yard box which slid right under Rowswell. The Tars continued to battle back to try and find the equalizer, but the experienced Sharks were up to the task. Nova Southeastern was able to find the back of the net once again in the 84th minute off of a corner kick, and once more in the 88th minute on another drilled shot into the top left corner. The Tars would pull one back late for a conciliation goal, as McGirt converted a tough angled shot from the right side of the box into the net. It was too late for the Tars to complete the comeback, and they would fall to the No. 20 Sharks, 3-1.
- Rollins still leads the all-time series against the Sharks, 12-4-3
- Rowswell currently sits in second place in the SSC standings with 43 saves
- Tars' head coach Alicia Schuck currently sits with a record of 85-27-8
Rollins will return home for a Sunshine State Conference match-up with the University of Tampa. The match is scheduled for Wednesday, October 4, at 7 p.m.
