SET UP- Rollins currently sits at 2-5-1 overall, and 1-2-1 in the Sunshine State Conference, as the second half of their regular season is set to begin. The Tars will be looking to end a two-game skid in Sunshine State Conference action, when they host the University of Tampa on Wednesday, October 4th. The Spartans are 5-1-1, and 2-1 in the SSC, while suffering their first defeat of the season to Florida Southern in their last match, 1-0. Then just three days later, the Tars will pack up and travel to Fort Lauderdale, Florida to face Palm Beach Atlantic on Saturday October 7th. The Sailfish have compiled a 1-5 overall record, and are 0-3 in the SSC, while dropping all three SSC contests by a score of 1-0.
WHAT TO WATCH:
Rollins: The Tars continue to be led by junior Kiera McMeekan and Freshman Karina Santin, both have collected three points on a goal and an assist so far this campaign. Junior Yaya Mbengue and freshman Chynna McGirt have also found the back of the net this season. Junior Jill Richards has also generated an assist. Offensively, the Tars are averaging almost 13 shots a game, which is good for seventh in the conference.
In the net, sophomore Kelly Rowswell has started all eight games for the Tars. The Windermere, Florida native ranks second in the SSC with 43 saves, while only allowing nine goals on the year. Rowswell has now documented three clean sheets this season, and eight for her career.
Tampa: The Spartans sit in third place in the SSC standings, while dropping their latest match to Florida Southern, 1-0. The Spartans are led by freshman midfielder Erika Peitersen, who has produced three goals. Junior Nastasia Asgedom has compiled two goals on the year, as well as adding two assists, which is good for six points. As a defender, junior Ali Robinson has netted two goals this campaign, both of which were game-winners for the Spartans.
Caroline Frykgard has been the lone Spartan in the net this season. In that time, she has totaled 655 minutes of action, making 24 saves in the process. The Stockholm, Sweden native has only allowed five goals in seven games, and kept two clean sheets.
Palm Beach Atlantic: The Sailfish have dropped all three of their SSC matches by a narrow score of 1-0. Palm Beach Atlantic will be looking to record their first conference win as a full member of the SSC against the Tars. The Sailfish are led by freshman Taylor Frizen, who has scored twice this season, tallying four points. PBA will depend on a well-balanced attack, as six different Sailfish have listed their name in the scoring column this campaign. Gemma Burrul has dished out a team high two assists this season, while Kelly Giddes and Signe Madsen have registered one assist.
Goalkeeper Isabelle Granlund has seen the majority of the minutes in between the pipes for the Sailfish. The Skogas, Sweden native has started all six games, allowed eight goals, and making 24 saves on 68 shots faced.
