MELBOURNE, Fla. - The Tars were picked to finish sixth in the Sunshine State Conference, according to the 2018 baseball preseason coaches' poll that was released on Thursday.
Rollins will be looking to improve on their 2017 campaign, which saw the Tars finish with an overall record of 27-23, and 9-15 in the SSC, good for a seventh-place conference finish. Rollins welcomes 11 newcomers to the squad, and they will be returning 21 players from a year ago, including 11 seniors. The Tars will look to lean on an experienced pitching staff to lead them through the SSC gauntlet.
Preseason favorite and defending SSC champions Tampa get the first-place nod with 100 total votes, and 10 first place votes in the poll. Nova Southeastern also picked up a single first place vote, followed by 89 total votes finishing in second place. Rounding out the top five was Florida Southern with 80 votes, Lynn with 70, and Florida Tech in fifth with 62.
Rollins will kick-off their 2018 campaign on Friday, February 2 at 5 p.m. when they host Young Harris College in a three-game series. The Tars will begin SSC play on Friday, March 2 at 6 p.m. when they host rivals Lynn University at Alfond Stadium. The NCAA Regional tournament is set to begin on May 17th. The 2018 NCAA National Championship will take place in North Carolina once again, with competition starting on May 26th.
