WINTER PARK, Fla. (January 25, 2018) - The Rollins College baseball team released their 2018 schedule, with their home opener slated for Friday, February 2 against Young Harris College.
The Tars schedule features three opponents that finished the 2017 season among the top-25 of the Division II NCBWA rankings, including the 2017 conference champion, Tampa coming in at No. 10, while Nova Southeastern came in at No.17, and Florida Southern finished at No. 24.
Rollins finished the 2017 season with an overall record of 27-23, and 9-15 in Sunshine State Conference play.
Rollins season totals 31 home games this campaign, including a stretch of non-conference games to kick-off the season. During that stretch, the Tars will make the trip to Pensacola to play a three-game series against the University of West Florida. The Tars will then host a midweek contest against Flagler, before turning around to face Bentley in another three-game weekend set.
To close out February, the Tars will begin a three-game span against Peach Belt Conference member Columbus State. Rollins will then jump right into their Sunshine State Conference schedule when rival Lynn comes to Alfond Stadium for a weekend series on March 2 and 3.
Rollins Annual Baseball Week opens on March 7 and wraps up March 11, where the Tars will play five games in the span of five days. To get the action started, Rollins faces Nyack on March 7, and Assumption on March 8, before welcoming Concordia N.Y. for back to back games on March 9 and 10. The Tars will close out their Annual Baseball Week when they face Assumption once again on March 11.
Ave Maria will come to Winter park for a single midweek clash with the Tars, and then it's right back into the SSC gauntlet for Rollins. They will host newly admitted full SSC member Palm Beach Atlantic for a doubleheader series on March 16-17.
The Tars will then begin a six-game road trip over the span of two weeks. They will begin their away trip with a three-game set against the Tritons of Eckerd. Then the following week March 29-31, Rollins will visit the No. 17 Nova Southeastern Sharks for a three-match string.
Finally, the Tars will return to Alfond Stadium to begin their April slate of contests, when No. 24 ranked Florida Southern will make the short trip from Lakeland on April 6-8. Rollins won't be able to get comfortable because their next seven games will all be away from Winter Park. First they will visit Saint Leo on April 13-15, before heading up Florida's East coast to meet up with Flagler for a single game on April 18. It's then back down South for the Tars when they will trek to Miami Shores to battle it out with Barry in doubleheader action on April 20-21.
The defending SSC champions and No. 10 ranked Tampa will make their way to Winter Park. The Spartans will clash with the Tars in an SSC series on April 27 and 28.
For the final stretch of the season, Rollins will voyage to Daytona Beach, when they take on Embry-Riddle May 4-6. This will be the Eagles first season as full SSC conference members. The Tars will finish out their 2018 regular season at Alfond Stadium against Florida Tech. The regular season finale will take place from May 10-12.
