Offense Propels Tars To Series Sweep

WINTER PARK, Fla. (February 4, 2018) – Rollins and Young Harris squared off for third time in as many days, with the Tars sweeping the Mountain Lions and taking game three, 16-4.  

The Tars offense was led by a group of veterans in Brian Brooker, Bryce Peterson, Nick Breen, and Grant Ashline. Both Brooker and Breen went 3-4 in the game, with Brooker recording two homeruns and five RBI while Breen tallied a double. Peterson and Ashline went a combined 5-8, while each registering a grand slam.

Garrett Leonard got the start on the mound for the Tars. The Fort Mill S.C. native pitched four innings, and tallied nine strikeouts in his first win of the season. Appearances on the hill were also made by Mike Gaughan, James Doherty, and Tate-Stone Frisina in the Tars victory.   

The Mountain Lions were paced by Rudy Gaona and Zavier Lushington. Gaona went 1-3, including a bomb with two RBI. Lushington also recorded an RBI, and went 2-4 on the afternoon. 

• Young Harris struck first when Gaona hit a two-run shot to deep left center, giving the Mountain Lions a 2-0 advantage

• Brooker would answer with a three-run shot of his own over the left center wall, putting the Tars back on top, 3-2.

• The game would then go back and forth with both teams earning runs in the third and fourth innings. The Tars would then take a 9-4 advantage when Bryce Peterson tallied a grand slam to deep left center.  

• The Tars offense would really catch fire in the bottom of the fifth behind a Grant Ashline grand slam as well as another Brooker home run, his second of the day.

• Tate-Stone would close out the game for the Tars in the last inning, sealing the Tars 16-4 victory over the Mountain Lions. 

• Ashline, Peterson, and Brooker (2) all recorded home runs in the win
• Rollins is now 11-4 all-time against the Mountain Lions
• Head Coach Jon Sjogren is 324-299-3 in his 13th season at the helm  


Rollins will travel to Pensacola, Fla. to take on West Florida in a three-game set. The series will begin on Friday, February 9 at 5 p.m.
