SET-UP: The 70th Annual Baseball Week will begin the first week of March with a schedule of exciting games between Rollins and four visiting teams. Overall, the Tars sit at 8-7, and 2-1 in Sunshine State Conference play after winning their last matchup against Lynn University, 7-0. The teams making the journey to the sunshine state will include Assumption College, Bentley, Concordia College, and Nyack College.

TRACKING THE TARS: Through 15 games, the Tars offense has plated 94 runs as a team. Brendan Brundage is batting .371 on the year, and leads the team with 23 hits. Senior Nick Breen has tallied 21 hits including six doubles, and a home run to go along with 10 RBI. Bryce Peterson and Brian Brooker have each chipped in five home runs this campaign, with Peterson driving in 13 runs, while Brooker has brought home 20.

Garrett Leonard picked up his team leading third win of the season. The sophomore threw a no-hitter against Lynn, to go along with five strikeouts. Also on the mound for the Tars is juniors Brad case and Cameron Enck. Case sits at 2-2 in five appearances, registering 25 strikeouts in 32.2 innings pitched. Enck has compiled impressive numbers as well, recording 35 punch outs in 27.1 innings tossed, all while scattering only 21 hits to opposing batters.      

TRACKING THE GREYHOUNDS: Assumption dropped their latest contest against Concordia College 4-0, and currently own a 2-5 overall record. The Greyhounds have plated 23 runs as a team, and hold a .262 team batting average. Quinn Moynihan leads Assumption with a .429 batting average, as well as a team leading nine hits. Kevin Quinlivan has chipped in two doubles, two home runs, and nine RBI.

On the hill, Mike Curtis and Tom Horstkotte have picked up the two wins for the Greyhounds, and Kyle Chudoba has registered the lone save on the year.

TRACKING THE WARRIORS: At this point in the season, the Warriors are 4-2-1 overall, including defeating Bentley 5-4, in a neutral site game. Offensively, Nyack is batting .291 on the year, while scoring 63 runs in just seven games. Leading the lineup for the Warriors is Anthony Torreullas and Gabriel Vasquez. Torreullas a sophomore, leads the team with 13 hits, and 12 RBI. Vasquez has also helped out offensively, chipping in two doubles, a triple, and six RBI.

Chase Morris has racked up two wins in his two starts, while also compiling 16 strikeouts in 12 innings tossed.


TRACKING THE CLIPPERS: The Clippers began their season in late February, and have only played in four games, and have a 2-2 record so far this season. As a team, the Clippers have touched home plate 47 times, and have maintained a .356 batting average. Offensively, Andre Jackson leads the team with 11 hits, including four home runs and 13 RBI. The Junior has maintained a .647 batting average, as well as an impressive 1.471 slugging percentage.

John Wall and Daniel Borysowski have each notched wins for the Clippers on the mound. The pitching duo has combined for seven strikeouts in 10 innings tossed.    

TRACKING THE FALCONS: Bentley will be making their third trip this season to the Sunshine State. Last time the Falcons visited Alfond Stadium, it was for a three-game stint with the Tars, who would sweep the Falcons. Currently, Bentley sits at 1-6, but they will be looking to turn things around during Baseball Week. The Falcons are good for a .207 team batting average, and they have scored 26 runs as a team. With eleven hits, Ryan Berardino pace's the Flacons offense. The sophomore has three RBI to his name this season, as well as a .367 batting average.

Greg Johnson has generated the only win for the Falcons this campaign. The sophomore has pitched in just five innings so far, to go along with three strikeouts.    

NOTES:

  • Peterson and Brooker each have five homeruns this season
  • The Tars went 4-1 during Baseball week last year
  • Head Coach Jon Sjogren is 329-306-3 in his 13th season at the helm of Rollins Baseball

NEXT:

Rollins will welcome Ave Maria for a midweek clash before jumping back into SSC play. The game against the Gyrenes is scheduled for March 14, 2018 at 6pm at Alfond Stadium.
