Tars Cap Off Undefeated Baseball Week In Win Over Greyhounds

WINTER PARK, Fla. (March 11, 2018) – The Tars close out an undefeated Baseball week with a 4-2 win over Assumption.

The Tars have now won six straight to improve to 13-7 overall, while Assumption falls to 3-7 on the season.

The Tars offense was led by seniors Brian Brooker and Bryce Peterson. Brooker went 3-4 on the afternoon, including a double, RBI, and run scored. Peterson chipped in with two RBI, and two runs scored of his own, to go along with his seventh home run of the year.  

Reigning Sunshine State Pitcher of the Week winner Garrett Leonard got the start for the Tars on the mound, as well as his fourth win of the season. The sophomore pitch 5.1 innings, allowing only one hit as well as just one run. He also recorded eight strikeouts against 21 batters faced. Whit Drennan and Caleb Jakes closed out the gamed for the Tars, with Jakes picking up his first save on the campaign.  


  • Both offenses struggled to get going as they were shutout through the first three innings of play
  • Assumption struck first in the bottom of the fourth on a fielder's choice, taking a narrow 1-0 lead over the Tars
  • Brooker got things going for the blue and gold when he singled to left field, bringing home Peterson. It was then Ted Meissner who would give the Tars their first lead of the game in the bottom of the fourth with another single, this time plating Brooker for the 2-1 lead.
  • Peterson would extend the Tars lead in the bottom of the eighth when he homered deep over the right center fence, plating Cameron Meehan as well and increasing the Tars advantage to   4 -1.  
  • Assumption's comeback fell short in the top of the ninth, and they would fall to the Tars by a final score of 4-2.


• Rollins leads the all-time series vs Assumption, 9-2
• Head Coach Jon Sjogren is 333-306-3 in his 13th season at the helm of Rollins baseball 


The Tars will host the visiting Gyrenes of Ave Maria in a midweek contest at Alfond Stadium. First pitch is slated for Wednesday, March 14 at 6:00 pm.
