Tars Slip Up Against Tritons

Tars Slip Up Against Tritons

SAINT PETERSBURG, Fla. (March 24, 2018) – The Tars found themselves behind late in both games of the doubleheader, and couldn't complete the comeback in either as they fell 7-4 in game one, and 5-4 in game two.

The Tars fall to 16-11 overall, and 4-5 in conference play, while the Tritons improve to 13-15, and 6-9 in SSC play.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Game One:

  • Rollins jumped to an early 2-0 lead over the Tritons with a pair of homeruns. Bryce Peterson struck a solo shot over the center field fence, followed by Nick Santucci who went deep over right center with another solo shot.
  • The Tritons really got their bats going in the bottom of the fourth inning, plating four runs to give Eckerd a 4-2 advantage.
  • Again it was the Tritons who got going offensively, scoring an additional three runs in the bottom of the sixth to take a 7-2 lead.
  • Isaiah Russell hit his first home-run of the year in the top of the seventh, and Peterson hit his second solo shot of the game, but it wouldn't be enough as the Tars would drop the first game of the doubleheader to the Tritons, 7-4.

 Game Two:

  • Eckerd stuck first in game two, tallying the first run in the bottom of the first to take an early 1-0 lead.
  • Rollins would answer in the top of the second with a single run of their own. Bryce Peterson crushed his third home run of the day to left field, to tie the game at 1-1.
  • The Tritons would plate the next four runs, to take a 5-1 advantage over Rollins in the bottom of the fourth.
  • Cameron Meehan would then homer to center field in the top of the fifth, to cut the Tritons lead to 5-2.
  • Rollins would not go quietly, as they put two runs up on the board in the bottom of the eighth. Nick Breen would bring home Nick Santucci, followed by Brooker singling and plating Sam LaFontaine to bring the game to 5-4.
  • The Tars comeback would fall short, as they couldn't bring the tying run home in the ninth, and they would fall in the second game of the doubleheader, 5-4.
