WINTER PARK, Fla. (August 24, 2018) –Head Coach Dr. Jon Sjogren and the Rollins baseball coaching staff welcomes 10 newcomers to the program for the upcoming season. First-year Rollins students moved onto campus Wednesday with classes to begin Monday, August 27.
"I am very pleased to announce an additional ten players to our varsity team for the 2018-2019 season," said Sjogren "I would like to thank our Recruiting Coordinator, Patrick Szczerba, and assistant coaches, Conor Szczerba and Justin Yount, for the outstanding job they did in identifying and securing proven and successful collegiate student-athletes and talented high school student-athletes for our program. They will be outstanding additions to the Rollins Community and our baseball family."
In addition to the ten players listed below, Rollins Baseball inked six players during the early signing period for the upcoming school year. Eight of the players added this spring/summer are Division I transfers and two are joining the Tars from Florida high schools.
Drew Daczkowski RHP
Drew is a transfer from High Point University and had been in the weekend rotation since he stepped foot on campus. As a freshman he was named Second Team All-Big South and led the Panthers in wins, innings, and strikeouts. Over two season he had a 3.17 ERA in over 100 innings pitched. He averaged more than one strikeout an inning while holding opponents to a .201 batting average. This past season he was the opening night starter for the Panthers.
Jared Herron C/INF/OF
Jared is transferring to Rollins by way of Florida State University. Herron redshirted as a freshman at FSU and will be a redshirt sophomore for the Tars this season. During his redshirt Freshman year at Florida State, he saw action in 27 games and hit .297. Perfect Game rated him the No. 6 catcher in Florida out of Trinity Prep and he was a PG All- American.
Ross Korosec RHP
Ross will be coming Rollins from the University of South Florida. After a medical redshirt his freshman year Ross saw action in three games this season on the mound for USF while returning from injury. This past summer he pitched for the Scorpions in the Florida Collegiate Summer league and was top-five in the league in strikeouts. He was PG All-American out of Winter Springs High school and did not allow an earned run during his entire senior season.
Jimmy Robbins LHP
Jimmy is a transfer from Troy University in Troy, Alabama. Jimmy made 13 appearances out of the bullpen for Troy during the 2017 season while striking out more than a batter per inning. He received a medical redshirt during the 2018 season and will be a redshirt sophomore for the Tars. During the 2017 summer he threw 38 innings with a 2.58 ERA for the Scorpions of the Florida Collegiate Summer League.
Devin Ortiz INF
Devin will be a graduate transfer from USC- Upstate and will join former teammate Brenden Brundage on the roster. He has two seasons of eligibility with the Tars after missing the majority of the 2018 season with an injury. As a freshman, Devin was named the ASUN freshman of the year and was a Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American. During that season, he hit .352 and led the Spartans in triples and stolen bases. His sophomore year he started 50 games and hit .291 with 17 multi-hit games and a .951 fielding percentage.
Jack Gonzales INF
Jack will be transferring from nearby Stetson University. As a sophomore Gonzalez was a mainstay in the 4-hole for the Hatters and was named Preseason All-ASUN leading into the 2018 campaign. In 2017, he hit .298 and led the team in home runs. He also hit .308 in conference play. Jack will be a senior for the Tars and attended high school at Masters Academy.
Dalton Senger RHP
Dalton will be transferring from UNF. He will be a redshirt sophomore. After redshirting his freshman year Dalton pitched on opening day for the Osprey. He was a top 100 prospect in Florida coming out of Boca Rotan Community High school. His twin brother Mitchell is a pitcher at Stetson and a former teammate of Jack Gonzalez.
Gabe Scavone 1B
Gabe will be joining teammate Drew Daczkowski as both will be heading south from High Point. Gabe redshirted as a freshman for the Panthers and saw action in two games this past season. He attended nearby Bishop Moore High School where he was a mainstay in the middle of the order for 3 seasons. He was the #13 rated Firstbaseman in the state of Florida by Perfect Game.
Parker Smith OF
Parker will be an incoming freshman from Timber Creek High School. Parker had a prolific career at TCHS as not only a baseball player but on the football field as well. He returned from a broken leg in 2017 to help lead the Wolves to their first state championship in baseball alongside current Tar Cameron Meehan. This year he blasted six home runs for the Wolves and led them back to the state championship game.
Ryan Coleman 1B
Ryan is an incoming freshman from Calvary Christian high school. This year's team finished the season 30-1 with its only loss coming in the State Championship game. Ryan completed a successful high school career this season and had been a big part of Calvary's sustained success over the last 3 seasons.
These 10 players will join Dakoda Grove, Jack McCluskey, Matt Hurley, Kyle Kramer, Ryan Moore, and transfer Cody Oerther, all who signed with the Tars during the November signing period. The bios for those players can be found on RollinsSports.com
